Gideon Bay is located west of Excelsior Bay and southwest of Lower Lake Minnetonka, Sunrise Pointe and Commons Peninsula provides its northern and southern borders. Sunrise Pointe’s residences showcase some of the best views of the lake, as it overlooks the sun rising from the east. Commons Peninsula is home to fan-favorites: Excelsior Public Beach and Excelsior Commons. The bay has depths of 51 feet and has nearly 4.5 miles of shoreline in the cities of Excelsior, Shorewood, and Tonka Bay. The homes on Gideon Bay are located in the Minnetonka School District.
The Minnehaha Creek Watershed District has historically given Gideon Bay an A in water quality. The water is crystal clear, and the bay can be enjoyed by recreational users at any time of the year.
Gideon Bay has one marina on the southern tip of the bay, Shorewood Marina. It is a division of the Tonka Bay Marina and is located on four acres of beautifully landscaped grounds. The marina offers over 100 deep-water slips, each with easy access to water and electrical hookups. Shorewood Marina is home to Lake Minnetonka’s largest and most advanced travel lift system yet. The latest lift service technology is available to the public through an appointment from Shorewood Marina.
The real estate on Gideon Bay is largely residential. The exception to this is Old Orchard Park- located next to Tonka Bay City Hall. Old Orchard Park has a swing set, barbeque grills, and fishing piers. The city of Tonka Bay owns Old Orchard Park and offers annual dock slips to residents, boat slides, and canoe racks available to rent. Although it is important to note that the dock slips have a several-year waiting list.
