TANAGER LAKE
Location Highlights:
Tanager Lake is located west of Browns Bay, and the bay was not connected to the larger Lake Minnetonka until a narrow channel was dredged. The bay comprises 54 acres of water and has just over a mile of shoreline. The homes on Tanager Lake are located in the city of Orono and the Orono School District.
Water Quality:
The water depth in Tanager Lake reaches a maximum depth of 20 feet, and the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District has given it a C rating in water quality, which means that Tanager Lake is desirable for swimming and boating later in the season.
Boating Restrictions:
None
Lake Access:
Tanager Lake is home to the Tanager Marina located in Orono. The marina offers electricity, water, and fuel on-site, restrooms, on-site parking, and dockhands available to assist seven days a week from 8 am until dusk. Tanager offers 40 dock slips, but just across Shoreline Drive, Tanager’s sister marina, Browns Bay Marina, has 58 dock slips while providing all the same amenities.
Amenities:
Tanager Lake is known for its excellent fishing; since it is a somewhat isolated bay on Lake Minnetonka, there is rarely ever boat traffic. A variety of fish species are found on the bay, including Bullhead, Bluegill, Largemouth Bass, Muskie, Northern Pike, Walleye, Crappie, and Yellow Perch. Nearby in Wayzata Bay, boaters can stop by the downtown Wayzata Public Docks and shop at local favorites, Sun and Slope, Shop 44 North, and Fashion Avenue 2, or a bite to eat at Giannis Steakhouse, COV, and Wayzata Bar and Grill.
