Echo Bay is nestled between Lafayette Bay and North Lower Lake, spanning the communities of Tonka Bay and Orono. Homes along Echo Bay fall within the highly regarded Minnetonka School District. This bay is especially active due to its proximity just east of the popular Big Island. Back in 1906, Big Island was home to a bustling 65-acre amusement park that drew crowds of up to 10,000 people each weekend. At the time, a fleet of passenger ferries, some carrying over 1,000 visitors, shuttled guests from the city of Excelsior to the island. Although the amusement park closed in 1911, the island remains a beloved destination and is now a scenic nature park managed by the city of Orono. Today, Big Island continues to attract visitors, especially on the Fourth of July when it becomes the site of Lake Minnetonka’s largest boat party. Sunrise Point stands out as one of Echo Bay's most coveted residential enclaves, celebrated for its prime waterfront properties and picture-perfect views. Nearby, the Fairhope neighborhood offers close access to the charm and energy of downtown Excelsior, along with sweeping panoramas over Echo Bay.
