Shorewood Highlights:
Shorewood, located in Hennepin County, is a picturesque lakeside city with a population of around 8,000 people. Nestled between Excelsior and Tonka Bay, Shorewood stretches six miles long and one mile wide, covering more than 3,600 acres. The city includes three islands on Lake Minnetonka, Enchanted, Shady, and Spray, with most of its lakeshore along beautiful Gideon Bay. Known for its scenic charm and peaceful neighborhoods, Shorewood also offers convenient access to Minneapolis, making it a popular choice for commuters. Residents enjoy peace of mind with top-notch public safety services provided by the Excelsior Fire District, the South Lake Minnetonka Police Department, and support from Mound Fire for the islands. With its low crime rate, strong sense of community, and calm lakeside setting, Shorewood is a truly special place to call home.
INSIDER TIPS
Shorewood is primarily residential, with only a few retail and commercial offerings. The abundance of parks and green space make this close-in city feel rural. The majority of the lake homes in Shorewood face North overlooking Big Island.
MINNETONKA SCHOOL DISTRICT
Shorewood is located within the Minnetonka School District. The Minnetonka Public School District is among the highest-performing school districts in Minnesota and the nation and proudly serves families in all or part of 10 communities: Minnetonka, Chanhassen, Deephaven, Eden Prairie, Excelsior, Greenwood, Shorewood, Tonka Bay, Victoria, and Woodland. In addition, students from 45 other Minnesota school districts attend Minnetonka schools through the state's Open Enrollment program.
