Orono

The city of Orono is a lakeside community on the north shore of Lake Minnetonka. Orono was founded in 1889 and its East Coast settlers named it after the portside city of Orono in Maine. Orono is roughly 25 square miles and almost 10 square miles of the city is on the lake. Lake Minnetonka has approximately 100 square miles, 10% of that lake frontage is the relatively small town of Orono, its no wonder its motto is the Lakeshore City.
