Community Spotlight: the city of Minnetonka Beach

The City of the Village of Minnetonka Beach is a unique lakeside community with an intense focus on community, heritage, and character. The Village of Minnetonka Beach is a boot shaped peninsula located on Lake Minnetonka with 230 homes and around 540 residents. It is a small village that packs a large punch with its pre-war era homes, gorgeous lake views and a commitment to keeping the Village residential. The only two non-residential occupants are the Lafayette Club and St. Martin's Church. Careful city planning and engaged residents have helped maintain open spaces and park lands, and the preservation of the "Village" atmosphere. Pictured above

Liberty on the Lake- Tim McGraw

Snap Fitness is, once again, hosting Tim McGraw for the second annual Liberty on the Lake event.  On July 28th, Tim McGraw will be gracing the shores of Lake Minnetonka to rock out and raise funds for charities that support soldiers and soldiers’ families.

By land, it is a private charity event, but by “sea,” it is open to the public.  The stage is a dual direction stage so all party goers by boat can see and hear the acoustic performance.  The concert is taking place at the home of Snap Fitness owner, Peter Taunton, on Palmer Pointe in Minnetrista.  Palmer Pointe is in between Smithtown Bay and West Upper Lake.

There is also a relay run and a kids run to meet every runner and non runner’s needs!  The Lake Minnetonka Half Marathon is not to be missed! This race is one of the premier half marathons in the state of Minnesota. I ran it last year and will be running it again this year. I think one of the greatest aspects of the race, besides it being on the shores of Lake Minnetonka, is the wide variety of runners. There are the very serious and fast runners all the way down to the walkers so it's very easy to step into the race and

Ice Melt Theory

If you’re anything like me, a couple nice days like we just had and I’m all in for summer.  Snow is gone, the sun feels lovely and warm, and the grass is trying to turn green so my brain is heading to one spot only. My brain is saying: Do not pass go, do not collect $200- head straight to summer and skip everything else.  I’m ready to break out the flip flops, patio furniture, lazy afternoons on the boat and grilling every single night. Except, there is one nagging thing that the sun and warm temps don’t seem to be taking care of quick enough- the ice on the lake.

A big part of our summer hinges on that lake melting.  And I, foolishly, was

When the Weather Gives You Lemons….

As we are still digging ourselves out of the 15 inches of snow from this past weekend, I find myself thinking of that old adage “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.”  Except, we are adults and we don’t need to be drinking lemonade. You know what we need to be drinking? Champagne. It’s bubbly, delicious, and helps me forget that this winter won’t end.  So, my new motto is “when the weather gives you lemons in the form of the snowiest April on record and snow that doesn’t seem to be melting fast enough- drink champagne.” Pretty catchy, right?

I want to introduce you to one of my favorite champagnes.  You may be wondering what this has to do with real

Cold dawn

Spring… where art thou?

As I looked out my window today, I saw four snowmobiles zoom by on the frozen lake, two ice fishermen drive their ATVs by and snowflakes gently falling from the sky.  Normally, I’d be happy to see this scene. People enjoying the outdoors, a fresh blanket of snow to cover all the brown grass, and the quiet peace that always comes with fresh snow.  Except there is one problem…. It's APRIL!

You know what I want to see in April?  No snow, buds on the trees, an open lake, and the warmth of the sun on your face as you're sitting on your patio still mosquito free!  Well… that’s not this year. It feels like we are in perpetual winter here. I keep on asking
