Greenwood Highlights:
Greenwood is one of Lake Minnetonka’s most charming and tight-knit communities, with a population of just around 750 residents. Though it spans only 0.61 square miles, with nearly half of that on the lake, its scenic setting on St. Albans Bay offers westward views and some of the area’s most breathtaking sunsets. Greenwood’s location provides the best of both worlds: peaceful lakeside living and walkable access to the shops, dining, and charm of downtown Excelsior. Despite its size, Greenwood thrives on community spirit, hosting annual 4th of July parades, and even a local ice fishing group. Greenwood Park is a favorite gathering spot, and the city’s strong safety record, served by the Excelsior Fire District and South Lake Minnetonka Police, adds to its appeal as a welcoming and secure place to call home.
INSIDER TIPS
For the non-lakeshore owners, Greenwood has 26 slips for boots at the St. Alban's Bay City Docks. There is a waiting list, but priority is given to non-lakeshore owners.
Greenwood Marina is located in Greenwood and is the only marina on Lake Minnetonka with covered slips- an excellent tool in helping protect your boat from the elements.
-
It's a full-service marina with gas, summer dockage, cleaning and detailing, and winter storage.
- Owned and operated for over forty years by the same family and is located on the calm bay of St. Albans.
MINNETONKA SCHOOL DISTRICT
Greenwood is located within the Minnetonka School District. The Minnetonka Public School District is among the highest-performing school districts in Minnesota and the nation and proudly serves families in all or part of 10 communities: Minnetonka, Chanhassen, Deephaven, Eden Prairie, Excelsior, Greenwood, Shorewood, Tonka Bay, Victoria, and Woodland. In addition, students from 45 other Minnesota school districts attend Minnetonka schools through the state's Open Enrollment program.
MUNICIPAL BOAT SLIPS
The City of Greenwood provides municipal dock slips, sailboat slips, and canoe racks, primarily for residents without lakeshore access. These facilities are located on and around Lake Minnetonka, including the St. Alban’s Bay docks and the Meadville sailboat and canoe areas.
To apply, residents must complete a waiting list application. Each household may appear only once per waitlist, per location.
Permits are issued annually based on the following priority order:
- Previous year’s permit holders
- Off-shore Greenwood residents on the waiting list
- Lakeshore Greenwood residents on the waiting list
- Non-residents on the waiting list
For full program details and application materials, please visit the City of Greenwood’s website or contact City Hall.
