According to new data from the Minneapolis Area REALTORS® and the Saint Paul Area Association of REALTORS®, both buyer and seller activity was down in April, but the number of residential showings has reached a new high for the year.

Both new listings and pending purchase activity were down in April compared to a year ago, but the declines varied dramatically by price range. For homes priced between $350,000 and $500,000, for example, sellers listed just 7.8 percent fewer homes than last April. Homes priced over $1,000,000, however, saw a 44.9 percent decrease in new listings. New listings at the far-affordable end of the market also saw notable declines. Read more

Truly understanding all aspects of lake life takes work, and today we took some time to experience a truly rare Lake Minnetonka experience “Snow Boating.” Seeing the sights and sounds of Lake Minnetonka from a whole different angle was an eye-opener. In no particular order: coats and life vests are cumbersome, @katiehollemn prefers full sun and it turns out kids don’t think “interesting experiences” are as enriching as @lakeminnetonkasothebys does. Navigation without the buoys keeps you on your toes, so it was refreshing to see the buoy barge today installing our favorite navigational beacons in all the right places. See you on the water Lake Minnetonka.

DNR asks people to adhere to social distancing guidelines while boating

Boating is allowed under Governor Walz's Stay-at-Home order.

A sign of spring emerged late last week with an ice out declared on Lake Minnetonka.

Now many of us, stuck at home, may be hoping to get out on the water.

"It's going to be a super cabin fever. Super charged cabin fever," said Gabriel Jabbour at Tonka Bay Marina.

He is also the former mayor of Orono.

His crew, who are deemed essential workers, are getting the boats ready while also keeping their distance from other workers and the public.

"They're going to be new routines we have to go through to handle some of those people, but I suggesst they be patient and be very safe," said Jabbour.

The Forgotten Side of Lake Minnetonka's Big Island

Read the lesser known history of one of Lake Minnetonka's most prominent landmarks.

Boaters on Lake Minnetonka today might be confused by the fact that Big Island is actually two separate islands. The two parts were conjoined in their natural state, but were separated circa 1900 when Olaf O. Searle dredged a channel through the island. Furthermore, a low-lying peninsula that extends into the channel’s “lagoon” is known as Mahpiyata Island. Some modern maps have made the mistake of placing the Mahpiyata name over western Big Island.

While the history of Big Island’s eastern side might be better known, the western side of the island has a significant history of its own.
