LAKE MINNETONKA COMMUNITIES

Welcome to Lake Minnetonka, 125 miles of shoreline, 14,403 acres of surface area, and 42 bays! The region comprises 14 lakeshore communities known for their natural beauty on miles of Lake Minnetonka shoreline.

Lake Minnetonka communities are unified under the Lake Minnetonka Conservation District (LMCD) to preserve the lake's natural resources and ensure its sustainability for recreational purposes. The LMCD was established in the early 20th century when Lake Minnetonka experienced significant environmental issues due to population growth, urban development, and industrial activities in the surrounding area. In response to growing environmental concerns, Minnesota Legislature established the LMCD to regulate the lake's use and develop a plan to eliminate pollution.

Lake Minnetonka residents have access to easy-to-find attractions year-round. Many of the cities in the Lake Minnetonka region host various community events; you can learn more about these events on each city's community page above.

The Lake Minnetonka School Districts include the Orono, East Carver County, Mound Westonka, Minnetonka, and Wayzata School Districts. Learn more about each school district and the cities that fall into them on the Lake Minnetonka School District page.
