History:
The Rest Point neighborhood in Orono is situated on a picturesque peninsula along the southeastern shore of Lake Minnetonka. This area, originally part of Excelsior Township, became part of Medina Township in 1868. In 1889, the Township of Orono was established from the southern half of Medina, and the name "Orono" was brought to the area by Major George Brackett, a native of Orono, Maine, who first used it to designate the area now known as Brackett’s Point. The neighborhood's name, "Rest Point," reflects its tranquil setting, offering residents serene lakeside views and a peaceful environment. Over the years, Orono has evolved from a rural township to a residential community, with Rest Point serving as one of its most desirable lakeside enclaves.
