The land of Palmer Pointe was formerly known as Schmid Farm. In 1876, Joseph and Benedict Schmid constructed a farmhouse in the Lake Minnetonka Regional Park. The 156-acre farm sat on a hill overlooking Lake Minnetonka. The Schmids used the land to raise livestock, including dairy cows, horses, cattle, pigs, chickens, and sheep. They also produced crops like wheat, oats, corn, hay, potatoes, and apples. Joseph's son began selling farm acreage in the 1890s, and it wasn't until the 2000s that development started on Palmer Pointe.
