History:
Northome originally belonged to Charles Gibson of the St. Louis Hotel. In 1870, Gibson and his wife, Virginia, bought 140 acres of land on Lake Minnetonka. Gibson built the St. Louis Hotel on the bay's west end in 1880. It was the first high-end hotel built on Lake Minnetonka and was very successful until the Lake Minnetonka tourism industry took a turn in the 1890s. Gibson eventually built a summer cottage of his own in Northome; the grand home had windows and wide porches overlooking St. Louis Bay, accompanied by views of the Big Island. In 1895, Gibson's cottage was destroyed in a fire, and in the early 1900s, the land was turned into Camp Miniwaste. The camp hosted boys across Minneapolis and St. Paul. They stayed in log cabins and would fish off the dock on St. Louis Bay. It wasn't until the 1940s that Northome transitioned to a residential community.

School District:
