MAXWELL BAY

Location Highlights:
Maxwell Bay is between Crystal Bay and Stubb’s Bay on Lake Minnetonka. The bay is located in Orono and the Orono School District. Maxwell Bay has just over 3.5 miles of shoreline and 978 acres of water. Maxwell Bay is a popular spot on Lake Minnetonka and a local favorite for performing recreational water sports like water skiing, wakeboarding, and surfing. 

Water Quality:
The maximum water depth in Maxwell Bay is 43 feet below the surface, and the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District gives Maxwell Bay a B in water quality. The water is generally good, but algae may limit swimming towards the end of summer.

Lake Access:
Maxwell Bay is home to the Maxwell Bay Boat Launch, owned by the city of Orono, and it is just 5 minutes from downtown Spring Park. Past the boat launch is North Shore Marina. They provide marine services like off-season storage, gas discounts, seasonal maintenance, and boat slip rentals.

Amenities:
The shoreline of Maxwell Bay is mainly residential, but in the channel entering Maxwell Bay, Norenberg Memorial Gardens is located. The 73-acre formal garden offers rental space for weddings and large events, and it is most known for its beautiful greenery and picture spots. Maxwell Bay is also well known for its excellent fishing, but it is a busier bay, and it is best to go early in the morning. The fish species most commonly found in the bay are Walleye, Northern Pike, Crappie, Perch, and several different species of Bass.
