History:
The Highcroft neighborhood's land was once the Highcroft Estate, a well-known landmark in Wayzata for over a century. The Highcroft Estate was built in 1895, complete with a large show garden, tennis courts, and barn. The Peavey family owned the estate, they owned 111 acres of what is today known as the Highcroft neighborhood. The Peavey family was known for their dominance in the grain industry and opened a dairy farm on the Highcroft Estate. The Highcroft Estate quickly became the center of Lake Minnetonka's social life, hosting a Christmas pageant for the grandchildren of the Peavey-Heffelfinger family. The estate remained in the family's name until 1953, when the home was demolished. In 1958 construction of the Highcroft Country Day School began; the school opened in 1961 and attracted children from wealthy families around Lake Minnetonka. The Highcroft area has a rich history in Wayzata that remains today, as the Blake School Highcroft Campus is located where the estate once was many decades ago.
