History:

Groveland in Woodland has a rich history that stretches back to the early 1900s. The land, originally deeded in 1857 to farmer Samuel Bartow, was transformed in 1902 when the Methodist Lakeside Assembly converted the parcel into a summer retreat complete with cottages, tents, and a lakeside assembly hall. This tranquil enclave thrived as a seasonal gathering spot, complete with hand-pumped wells and lake water for domestic use, until a fire in 1919 destroyed many cottages and the hall, including the north end of the property, after which they were rebuilt in 1920. By 1941, the seasonal leases began shifting to annual agreements, and in 1984, residents gained full ownership of their lots, formalizing the transformation from a vacation retreat into a permanent, tightly-knit residential neighborhood of 42 homes. Nearly a century later, Groveland retains its lakeside charm and strong community spirit, now supported by modern municipal utilities and a dedicated homeowners' association.
