The Dakota Rail moved wheat and raw materials from Central Minnesota to flour mills and factories in Minneapolis. The railway ran from 1885 until 2001; in 2008, Hennepin County began building the Dakota Rail Regional Trail behind the Fox Hill neighborhood.
