History:
Ferndale North was originally a collection of dairy farms organized by Fred G. Atkinson. Atkinson became very successful in the dairy and milling industry; he delivered milk to the Twin Cities and surrounding areas. In 1940 his land and herd were auctioned off, Larry Elwell bought the buildings and started a small turkey farm. The land was sold to individuals, and construction in the Ferndale North neighborhood began in the 1950s.
