He hired landscape architects from Boston to build a hotel overlooking Carsons and St. Louis Bay, and from there, the Hotel St. Louis was born in 1879. The hotel had 200 rooms, verandas on every floor, and modern technology such as telephones and electricity. During the Hotel St. Louis’ prime, owners of lakeshore acreage began selling their property, and the area slowly started becoming a residential community. Sadly enough, the Hotel St. Louis was demolished in 1907 when the tourism industry started deteriorating.
