The Seelands set out to preserve and conserve the land after seeing its value with rare tamarack bog and maple-basswood forests. They successfully restored the woodlands and prairie grasslands. Taking their conservation efforts even further, the Seelands planted over 4,000 trees and relocated 30 oversized oak. The family successfully conserved and preserved 90 acres of the land in what is known today as the Deer Hill Preserve.
