History:

Fred B. Snyder purchased the serene Locke Point in 1890. Snyder purchased 28 acres across from Tonka Bay City Hall for $56. He changed the name to Clay Cliffe because of the large amount of exposed clay at the far northwest end of the point. The Clay Cliffe neighborhood opened as the first gated community in Minnesota in 1976.
