Community Spotlight: McCormick’s Pub & Restaurant

This week, we are highlighting McCormick’s Pub & Restaurant in downtown Wayzata.  This is a family favorite of ours and is a go-to restaurant year round for us.

Owners Tim McCormick and Michael Simpson wanted to create a unique dining experience with ties to their ancestral connections to Ireland including the Irish tradition of warm hospitality.  And they succeded with a cozy Irish pub and an adjoining fancier dining room. This is nice because you can make it an everyday casual spot and sit on the Pub side or if you’re looking for a fancier dinner out, you can sit on the dining room side and not feel out of place dressed up for a night out.  McCormick’s location couldn’t be better with a central downtown Wayzata spot overlooking beautiful Lake Minnetonka. During the summer months, guests can sit on their spacious & beautifully landscaped patio and watch the boats go by on the Lake.

The ambiance is top notch, but what really sets this place apart is the delicious food.  They offer lunch and dinner daily- you can find their hours on their website at McCormicks.  McCormick’s offers a nice blend of traditional Irish pub food as well as American cuisine so everyone’s taste should be met with their diverse menu.  Their french onion soup is standout and is a constant on both the lunch and dinner menu. In addition to the french onion soup, they have a daily soup option.  In terms of Irish fare, you will find the quintessential foods such as Fish & Chips, Chicken Pot Pie, and Corned Beef & Cabbage (only on Mondays). But their menu also offers American favorites such as Pulled Pork Sliders, Steak Frites, and Pan Roasted Chicken.

McCormick’s has a weekend brunch every Saturday and Sunday from 9AM until 2PM.  You’ll find traditional brunch favorites such as eggs benedict, omelettes and french toast.  But you'll also find unique offerings such as corned beef hash, biscuits and gravy, and a pork green chili breakfast burrito.  A must try- their homemade cinnamon rolls.

No trip to McCormick’s is complete for our family unless it includes the fried clams.  They are hand breaded and served with McCormick’s tartar and hot sauce. We always ask for a side of their cocktail sauce to go with it!  Highly recommend it!!

And their truffle fries….  Yum! Hand cut, served with a lemon tarragon aioli,  and dusted in parmesan.

Their dessert menu is varied and everything we have eaten has been delicious.  However, one dessert item stands above the rest- the Banoffee pie. Now, I have never heard of a Banoffee pie before and, to be honest, would have probably skipped over it had our server not emphatically recommended it.  It is a heavenly mixture of banana, whipped cream, and toffee all on top of a graham cracker crust. Quite possibly the most delicious thing I have ever eaten!

Next time you're in Wayzata, consider stopping in for a Guinness, an Irish Coffee, or a sidecar.  And stay for dinner. You won’t be disappointed.

McCormick’s Pub and Restaurant is located at 331 Broadway Ave S in Wayzata and their phone number is 952-767-2417.  They do take reservations and you can either call or make a reservation on Open Table.
