The remote and sparsely populated Zumbra Heights was known as the most remote spot on the lake, and it took over an hour and a half to commute from downtown Minneapolis. The construction of homes in Bayshore and Baycliffe began in 1905, and homeowners utilized the streetcars and steamships to commute to Minneapolis.
